    Snarky comments notwithstanding (many of which I enjoyed) I think the better question is why so many archers are deconditioned. My archery improved dramatically and I greatly reduced muscle aches after I started a regular conditioning program. I prefer 3D as opposed to static archery. In addition to 30 minutes of archery 5 days a week, I walk at least a mile each day and practice another 30 minutes of beginner yoga postures. If I can do this at 71, all archers should be able to add some reasonable conditioning program to their practice. The vast majority of us will never have Ms. Loring’s physique, we will all enjoy archery more and improve with conditioning.

    It surprises me that only now do I learn that bows, even the most expensive ones, are such a shitty quality that they would break when you dry shot them. This is outrageous. Probably could be easily resolved if bow makers simply wanted them to absorb the dry shot correctly, but apparently they don't give a shit.

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei 2 дні тому

      This is incorrect. Modern bows are tested for thousands of dry fires. Virtually no modern competitive bow has suffered structure damage from dry firing - but at the same time, no competitive shooter dry fires their bow. The problem is more with cheaper entry-level bows with lower quality lamination. But this isn't a problem that is usually engineered for because bows aren't meant to be dry fired.

    First, in the slow motion, you turned the bow too late, probably because your reaction is not faster than the arrow. Second, even if you are faster enough, what's the point of doing this in archery? You mitigate spine, but you also eliminate all other benefits by using a bow, such as accuracy, consistency, and so on. You made archery being like shooting a basketball or slinger... If you want to shoot others' arrows back in war, tong-ah archery may work.

    • @NUSensei

      The thing to consider is that only a tiny fraction of the customer base interacts with the archery community - and only a tiny fraction of the community are on board with the idea of a boycott (essentially the few thousand who have seen and agree with Jake). The bulk of sales is done online without any research into the brand, and impulse buyers aren't going to watch a 20-min video ranting about a few pictures. Being realistic, a boycott is a moral stand rather than anything of significant economic impact.

    I don't want to be mean, but this is really dumb. Really, really dumb. Watching you with a high tech metal takedown recurve with a million accessories on you, is the equivalent of the "tacti cool" nerds with their accessories on their firearms. It's boring, it's nerdy, it's weird. If you want to talk about "progress" and technology, then ditch the bow and get a gun. The whole point of the bow is it has been used for literal thousands of years, at least 10,000 years with the oldest bow currently in a museum, of hunting and warfare. That is wood and string, and your skill. That is what people want to see when they see archery. It connects to 10,000 years of human history. And without all the accessories, it takes more skill. You literally look like a nerd with that metal bow and 30 accessories to help you.

  • @ragingdawn9896

    4:15 I'm using 2 ways of aiming based on my arrow alignment. If I need to shoot faster like training for fast knock on horse, I'll use through/outside the bow, because easiest and fastest anchor to get is outside cheekbone so generally my arrow will align more to target when I shift bow more right. It's also easier to see the target bcs you can/must see target first, and the bow picture will noticable enough but not distracting my target view. I'm struggling to shoot the same way for longer distance since arrow alignment isn't guaranteed if your anchor isn't too fixed, then my coach suggest to force my anchor inside my cheek. This way I get two benefit: I can see the string so my arrow will appeared more straight into target, and my anchor point get additional reference point so I'll less likely to get different anchor.

    Am recreational archer. I've been shooting 30# with relatively heavy arrows just fine. Perfect for indoor (18 meters) and just fine for outdoors up to about 40 meters. For longer distances (60-70 meters) my coach recommended lighter arrows (4mm) instead of "heavier" limbs.

  • @KevinMillard68
    @KevinMillard68 9 днів тому

    how is it that the string controls speed based on its material makes now since when its the limbs that control weight pull and then you have arrow weights and draw lengths control speed along with last time i checked the length of the string is what's most important to get right not so mich what its made out of.. so explain this voodoo in a way that any of us can understand why your saying what you are you need to be more specific and not just say this or that but we need the real details here ..

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei 9 днів тому

      The linked videos in my Bowstring tutorials go into more detail, but I thought I was clear in this video at 2:55. The key is how much string materials stretch. What you're seeing is Newton's 2nd law (F = ma). Assuming that mass is a constant (same bow limbs, same string mass), the key difference is acceleration. A stretchier string material (like Dacron) will have lower acceleration compared to a "faster" string material like Dyneema, which has less stretch. Those extra milliseconds of acceleration, multiplied with the mass of the limbs + arrow make a notable difference in velocity. You can feel a similar effect by holding a stretching band. Pull back a "stretchier" band (either a light one, or a normal one held with more slack), and you feel some pressure in your gripping hand near your thumb. Use a heavier, less stretchy band and draw to the same length, and there is far more pressure. The mass of the band and your body hasn't changed, but the elasticity of the material has. When you let go, the light band will experience less acceleration and it will comfortably be absorbed as the hand moves forward. With the heavier band, it will snap in front of your hand almost immediately and before your hand has time to move. You will feel more strain in your gripping hand on release. The interaction between the stretching band and your hand is similar to the interaction between the limb tip and the string. The faster material, being less stretchy, is less forgiving, causing more stress on the lighter limb tips. If the limb tips are not reinforced, this will cause the tip to shear, which typically happens on release.

  • @perrythacker2292
    @perrythacker2292 10 днів тому

    I think I shoot with what's generally considered the instinctive method. I tried "split vision" but I found that the effort to see the arrow in front of me was just a distraction. My "aiming" is just with my eyes, and I spend much more time aiming my eyes than you do here. Or call it "focusing." If I can focus on the target, aiming small, and I know that my form is correct, then I'm reasonably certain that my arrow will go fairly close to where I'm looking. The harder I aim with my eyes, the closer I get to the target. I'm not into the semantics of it. I just know that if my form is correct, then I'm lined up to hit where my eyes are looking.

    Can you explain why it’s ok to shoot while people are down range at 4:16ish?

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei 11 днів тому

      We have target separation guidelines. When targets have sufficient spacing on the range and there is no danger of a person walking into the shooter's cone, we permit independent target operation. This is so that the close distance targets on one end don't have to wait for the long distance competitive shooters at the other end to finish.

    The chaps collecting arrows down range must be really confident of your shooting. This was interesting. I assume you had your camera mounted to your head. It shows inconsistency in your stance between shots and what looks like increasing fatigue during the end--big end (I don't think I have 26 arrows that could be shot out of the same bow).

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei 11 днів тому

      Fatigue, yes. No stance change between shots though. I'm not sure what you're referring to.

    • @mozu305
      @mozu305 11 днів тому

      @@NUSensei My words might not be right--perhaps posture is a better word. I noticed that the target was not returning to the same position in the frame between shots. I was looking at when the shot was released. This is suggesting that at least your head position was changing through the end--or the camera was moving on your head. This was just a bit of an observation. I am not sure I could shoot 26-arrow ends even given a longer time.

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei 11 днів тому

      It might be the camera stabilisation that stops it from moving to the original position because the head movement is too quick.
